Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Apparent Group Limited (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the ComicBrain mobile app. By using ComicBrain, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
When you create an account, ComicBrain collects the email address, display name, and (where you choose to provide one) profile photo you submit. When you use the camera or photo-picker to identify a comic, ComicBrain processes the photo you capture or select. If you use Ask ComicBrain, we process the messages you send in that conversation. We also collect limited technical information — operating system and version, device model, app version and basic usage events — to keep the app working. We do not run a third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to: (a) provide the core comic-identification, valuation and collection-tracking features; (b) authenticate your account and prevent abuse; (c) deliver the subscription benefits you have purchased; (d) send operational messages such as email verification, password resets and material changes to this policy; and (e) measure how the app is performing so we can fix problems.
3. Photos, covers and Ask conversations
ComicBrain requests camera and photo-library access only after you tap a scan or import control. A photo you submit for identification is sent to our own server function, which passes it to our AI provider purely to compute a result; identification results and any images you choose to save are stored against your account so you can see them across devices. Ask ComicBrain conversations are sent the same way, to a text model, to produce an answer. We do not use your photos or conversations to train models, and we do not sell them.
4. Service providers
We rely on a small number of processors, each receiving only what it needs. Google Firebase provides authentication, the database, file storage, server functions, app attestation and remote configuration. Adapty manages subscriptions and entitlement checks. Apple and Google process subscription billing on the platform you installed from. Alibaba Cloud DashScope runs the vision model that identifies a comic from your photo, and DeepSeek runs the text model behind Ask ComicBrain — both are reached through our own server functions, never directly from the app. ZeptoMail delivers transactional email such as verification and password-reset messages.
5. Advertising and measurement
ComicBrain includes components used to measure advertising. On iOS the app asks for App Tracking Transparency permission and uses the advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you grant it; if you decline, that identifier is not used. On Android the Google Advertising ID may be used for the same purpose, and you can reset or limit it in your device settings. The app also participates in Apple's SKAdNetwork, which is performed by the operating system, and includes a Meta advertising SDK. Where measurement is active, install and campaign data — advertising identifiers, a one-way hash of your email address, install-referrer data and advertising click identifiers — may be shared with advertising and attribution partners so we can tell which adverts brought people to the app.
6. Selling and sharing
We do not sell your personal information for money. Using advertising identifiers for attribution and measurement may nevertheless count as "sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising" under California law and as similar concepts in some other jurisdictions. You can limit it by declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS, by resetting or limiting ad personalisation on Android, or by emailing us at hello@apparentgroup.co. Apart from that measurement, we share information only with the processors described above, where required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights or safety of our users or ourselves, or in connection with a merger or sale of assets, with notice.
7. Data retention and deletion
We keep your account information and saved content for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account from Settings inside the app. Deleting it removes your profile record and its subcollections, your saved comic scans and collection, your profile photo, any enhanced images produced for you, and your support, feedback and cancellation records. Some records are retained where the law requires it — for example transaction records tied to subscription receipts. Photos sent for identification are processed to produce a result and are not retained by our AI providers for their own purposes.
8. Your choices and rights
You can review and update your profile in the app, and delete your account from Settings. For access to, correction of, or a copy of your data, email us at hello@apparentgroup.co. Depending on where you live — for example in the EEA, the United Kingdom, California or Brazil — you may have additional rights, including to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, to data portability, and to complain to your data-protection authority. We respond to verified requests within the period the applicable law requires.
9. Children's privacy
ComicBrain is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email hello@apparentgroup.co and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, app attestation on API calls, and least-privilege server access. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you think your account has been compromised.
11. International transfers
ComicBrain is operated by Apparent Group Limited, and our processors operate globally. If you use the app from outside the country where a given processor stores data, your information may be transferred across borders to somewhere with different data-protection laws. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged in the app and the effective date above will be bumped. Continuing to use ComicBrain after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
